Last year we reported on famous ISCKON’s artist Ram Das Abhiram Prabhu stroke and future looked bleak at the time. He never recovered and on July 31 this year he joined Krishna and Srila Prabhupada in their eternal pastimes. As Rameshvara Prabhu remembers, Ram Das Abhiram was one of Srila Prabhupada’s most dear, intimate and confidential servants. His paintings filled the pages of Srimad Bhagavatam and Caitanya Caritamrita and Srila Prabhupada considered his Art Department the soul of ISKCON Press. Everybody knows the accompanying picture of the battle of Kurukshetra, for example. His wife, Srimati Dhriti Devi was also an artist and they painted together, demonstrating the power and beauty of Krishna conscious spiritual marriage. Prints of their paintings are available here – anyone familiar with our books would instantly recognize them. Here is a ten minute youtube video about Dhriti and Ram from 2008 and here are some pictures of him doing his service. Another devotee who left this word this week was Karunamayi Devi, an early disciple of Srila Prabhupada and the first wife of Gargamuni Prabhu, who himself was the earliest. There are some pictures of her here.
